The Pixi 3 is tolerably good for an inexpensive smartphone. I use an iPhone clone, the Android “OnePlus One” and I like that phone a lot. This Alcatel smartphone is way less expensive, smaller, lighter, thinner.

The screen is bright and pleasant. Resolution is sharp and clear, colors bright. It’s smaller than the larger iPhones. This make using the on-screen keyboard more difficult. If you have fat fingers or aren’t as dexterous as a fifteen year old, you’ll want a stylus handy to use the keyboard. I found it a bit frustrating as it was just that much smaller than my phone.

Set up:
Easy as pie. Pop in battery and SIM card, close the case. Set up took barely a few minutes. I was able to put it on my WiFi network and log into Google. It said the phone did not support Google Plus, so that was a bit concerning, but I had it operational in almost no time.

The phone boasts 8GB of internal storage but that is a bit deceptive. You will really only have 4.2GB available. Most of the apps cannot be de-installed. If you want to store videos and photos and music, you’ll need a micro SD card. Unlike the OnePlus One, this phone Does take a micro SD card.

If you use a limited data plan as I do ( Tmobile has unlimited talk and text but you can lower your monthly bill by limited internet) you should set the Background Data to Restricted. That way, you won’t inadvertently burn up megabytes on the data plan. I use very little data (no WiFi at work) so this is helpful for me to make sure when I’m NOT at work, I don’t accidentally use more of my plan than I’ve budgeted for.
